Subject: Daily Degeneracy Report: The S&P 500 Now Includes Our Shitposting
My fellow exit-liquidity providers,
Market mood is powered by 100% pure retardium. Reddit is joining an index, memory chips are doing the impossible, and Michael Burry has become the sub’s favorite piñata. Let’s get regarded.
[RDDT]: Reddit joins the S&P 500 on Aug. 18, which means your 401(k) is about to be long the same platform you use to call strangers “regarded” at 3 a.m., and one commenter celebrated by announcing “You’re in the S&P 500! We’re all in the S&P 500!” The commemorative YOLOs arrived on schedule: one autist wrote $4M of cash-secured puts with “DD: I use Reddit”, and another booked 60x on a leftover lotto leg. Naturally, the bears still managed to point out that shares are “soaring to where they were two weeks ago.”
[SNDK/MU]: The memory crowd is preaching the FOMO sermon — “you could have been up 60% on SNDK in two weeks but you fell for the FUD again.” One trader banked 150% on SanDisk and was immediately told SNDK is “going right back to $2400 literally Monday”, while another mourned panic-selling MU “just before we entered the technological singularity.” The sub’s verdict: Burry is a “fucking idiot” $SNDK $MU $NVDA $NBIS, which is the closest thing we have to a contrarian buy signal.
[UMAC/ONDS]: The drone-tariff trade is making UMAC and ONDS holders feel like geniuses, though the top comment immediately asked which domestic drone supplier “him and his sons” invested in first. One UMAC trader calls the move unstoppable while an ONDS bagholder admits that shitty stock will stay range bound for years. A long comment argues the “Made in the USA” drone story is mostly Chinese components with a higher-priced enshittified clone, but that has never stopped this market before.
[SPY]: 0DTE remains the casino’s favorite slot machine: one degen put $900k into SPY puts on the same account that turned $400k MU calls into $2M, and the narrator notes he did not, in fact, retire. Another closed a SPY $763C for a $79,709 gain (+4003%) after a journey from $300 to $280k to -$60k and back. The commentariat called it “peak WSB content”, with one commenter calculating ~$8,300 in Fidelity fees, which is apparently the price of admission.
[PYPL]: PayPal is once again in talks with Stripe and Advent, and the sub is already anchored to “$70+ this time” and “$85+, no way it will be less.” Investing.com, citing WSJ, has the bid at $60.50 a share, which the sub is treating as the opening offer in a game of “how high can we anchor before the board rejects it.” This is where the board rejects the bid, the stock holds, and everyone pretends they’re merger-arb geniuses based on a two-week calendar.
[NBIS / MICHAEL BURIED]: The sub is treating Burry as a punchline after the daily thread pointed at him doubling down on a Nebius short right as the stock surged 34% on earnings. One trader sold 70k in NBIS LEAPS for a slight gain after “weeks in the trenches” and got told earnings were “insanely good”; the thread’s other takes are “the puts are voided” and “3yrs too early.” The “Michael Buried” post just says “Rip,” which is about as much DD as this sub needs.
[JANE STREET / SITUATIONAL AWARENESS]: Reuters reports Jane Street took a $15 billion July hit tied to Situational Awareness and the AI selloff, and the sub responded by asking if Jane is related to Cathy and declaring “gods do bleed.” “Jane is on the streets” remains the best one-liner of the thread, which tells you everything about our collective emotional maturity. One commenter’s reassurance: they hire “the good kind of autism”, so the firm will probably be fine.
[RARE EARTH]: One autist put $20k into rare earth because “Rare Earth is national security,” and the comment section upgraded that to Arec’s 17% of ReElement, which Peter Navarro has been pushing. The timing wasn’t terrible: Friday’s news had MP Materials up 8% and USA Rare Earth up 9%. It’s a thematic trade, a drone-tariff hedge, and a reminder that “national security” is apparently a sufficient DD section.
[WEEKLY EARNINGS THREAD]: The pinned earnings thread was met with the enthusiasm it deserved: “worst week ever,” “trash ass week,” and “Earnings for ants. Where are all the computers?.” The only actionable DD was “calls on BJs” and a question about whether BULL will ever bull. Webull please.
[JUST STARTED INVESTING AFTER GETTING LAID OFF / HOW DO I GET MY MONEY BACK?]: A newly unemployed investor asked if the line starts going up from here, and the thread immediately told him he belongs here because he went straight into futures with his own money and no experience. A second degen asked how to get his money back and was told to call client service and ask for a refund, saying he misclicked. The house rule remains “no crying in the casino.”
So to recap: RDDT is an index constituent, SNDK is a monster, and Michael Burry is getting buried in the comments. We’ll be in the corner reading the earnings calendar and wondering where all the computers went.
Stay solvent (somehow),
